what i discovered
about halfway across the desert
was that something might have changed
if i'd only taken that other train
there might've been better wilderness
there might've been a star
among a desert of stars

look out for fire
seems like no one takes you serious
all I can say are those words on the wall

and what i discovered
gave me chills at the height of summer
it was not some wild refrain
it was cool and it called my name
and when the dark covered everything
that's when I shook the most
inside a desert of ghosts

what I discovered
was a prologue to another
but the desert took the tears
and we left it in better spirits
still trying to learn how to travel light
along a path that strays
across a desert of days
